The stigma of homosexuality within the entertainment and religious industries have recently been highlighted on OWN, VH1 and now BET.

Iyanla Vanzant devoted three episodes of her popular series, Iyanla Fix My Life to help two gay pastors reveal their sexuality to their family and their congregation.

VH1 also aired a special episode of “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood”, a round table discussion entitled, Out In Hip Hop which featured the seasons two gay cast members, Miles and Milan as well as a plethora of other artists, actors and activists who shared their thoughts on the topic.

Now, BET is following suit with a new documentary, “Holler If You Hear Me: Black and Gay In The Church” airing Monday, November 2nd.

The special, is hosted by Clay Cane who asked one of the interviewees what he thought about the importance of sharing these typically underrepresented stories. “I’m thinking hallelujah because I know gay people have been in the shadows, faithfully serving, faithfully attending and faithfully supporting the black church ever since there was a black church.”

Do you think documentaries and special programming like this just a fad or will it help to provide more acceptance for the LGBT community in the entertainment and religious industries?
