Hilary Clinton is trying her hardest to earn the African American vote. She recently met with activists from the #BlackLivesMatter movement. DeRay McKesson, one of the leaders of the coalition reached out to Clinton via Twitter and requested a meeting to learn more about her criminal justice platform. In addition to pushing ideas about police reform in hopes of eliminating the killings of unarmed black males.

“She hasn’t released a platform about racial justice, racial equity or criminal justice, I’m hopeful that this conversation will inform that platform. She did come out and say she wants to end private prisons…”

In an interview with Al Sharpton’s radio show, Clinton addressed incarceration rates by saying, “It is unfortunately clear as it could be that there is a bias in favor of white men who are arrested or charged with the very same offenses as African-American men.”

McKesson also shared that he advised Clinton to “…Tighten up the language she uses when addressing people of color. Sometimes her language is coded and you’re not sure who she’s talking to and we saw that evident in this meeting; there’s definitely an opportunity for growth there.”

With social media clearly being one of the best platforms to take a stance on issues, Clinton tweeted the “Racism is America’s original sin” following her conversation with McKesson and his colleagues.

Beyond Clinton potentially being the first woman to be President, what issues does she need to address to get your vote?
