One of the most popular 90’s hitmakers, singer Deborah Cox has a few new projects happening and she wants to share. The “Nobody’s Supposed To Be Here” vocalist, who lent her voice to the Whitney Houston biopic, is starring in a pretty special one heading to Broadway. She’ll play Josephine Baker in a musical about her life to hit the White Way next year.
“Ballet, Pilates, African, there’s a lot of dancing,” Cox says. “I’ve got the banana skirt. She was a very complex woman. She had a lot of fight in her. She rose from the streets, from extreme poverty in St. Louis to become the toast of Paree,” Cox says. “She did not look back, she was just driven to be a superstar.”
What many people don’t know is that Baker was infertile due to a variety of health issues. She adopted 12 multi-raical kids, married several times, spoke several languages, and even learned to pilot a plane. The musical deals with five years of Baker’s life.
Look for it on Broadway in the fall of 2016 but you can catch a preview of it in Sarasota, Florida this year. Click HERE for info on all of Cox’s projects.
