2015 Louis I. Kahn Memorial Award + Talk.

( A look into the new Comcast Innovation and Technology Center)

Philly Speaks had the pleasure of attending the “2015 Louis I. Kahn Memorial Award + Talk” on Tuesday June 9th at the UPENN Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology.

The sold out event honored the world-renowned Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, he is the architect of the future Comcast Innovation and Technology Center coming in 2018.

Now Philadelphians have been hearing about the Comcast Innovation and Technology Center since the announcement during the press conference January 2014. It was great to hear about and see the architectural roadmap for the building and to meet the man behind the structure. I was blown away by the brief visual we saw and look forward to the grand opening with a full tour.

Since 1967, Lord Foster has been creating masterpieces in over 20 countries; his notable projects include The Hearst Tower in New York City; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the tallest bridge in the world, the Millau Viaduct in Southern France.

During the event, the opening reception allowed for attendees to converse then guests gathered in the auditorium for Lord Foster’s remarks on his journey and the future of the New Philadelphia building. Following his speech, Chris Satullo, WHYY’s Vice President of News and Civic Dialogue engaged with Lord Foster in an intimate conversation.

The Award + Talk gave an insight on the great minds honored every year by the Louis I. Kahn Memorial Award but also we learned how great Philly is now and will be in the future.
