Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson may have released a video apologizing to “peaceful” protesters and the Brown Family about how Mike Brown’s case was handled, but that didn’t satisfy protesters.

Demonstrators marched outside of police headquarters in St. Louis on Thursday night, calling for Jackson to step down from his position as police chief. The march that lasted until Friday morning quickly turned violent once they realized he joined the crowd, The Daily News reports. Protesters hung a “Chief Jacka** Resign” sign outside of the station and images from the night show police shoving protesters and marchers exchanging words with Ferguson police.

Officers quickly came to defense and protected him from them.“His very presence agitated the crowd,” said St. Louis Alderman Antonio French. One Vine video shows the police grabbing and shoving protesters.

The unrest in Missouri last night stems not only from the way Mike Brown’s case was handled in general, but also for Jackson’s refusal to step down as chief, a confession he made in his video. The destruction of Mike Brown’s memorial that residents built also added tension among Missouri residents.
