Everywhere you turn these days there is a new reality tv show to watch. TV used to be sane when the main reality tv shows were live sporting events. Now there is a crazy reality show for everybody, from the originals like Real World, to Atlanta Housewives, by the way are any of them married, to Love and Hip Hop, Basketball Wives, Rocket City Rednecks, Swamp People, Storage Wars and countless others.

With so many reality shows on TV, I’m finding it hard to stay tuned into football, especially with how underwhelming our Philadelphia Eagles are performing. I’m not saying reality tv shows are taking over sporting events but I am saying the frustration of watching all of these pointless reality shows is starting to impact the enjoyment of sports.

It doesn’t help that the NBA is still in a lockout and there is nothing else to watch but hockey. I’m a die hard Philly Sports fan, but I’m still finding it hard to even think about watching hockey.

Am I the only one in the city that feels this way? I can’t believe that.

Sports have always been unique and captivating because the outcome is unscripted. The reality of “Reality TV” is that a lot of it is staged and after watching countless manipulation play out on screen, that has started to raise questions with how things are being done in sport.

For example why has Lesean McCoy hired and fired his agent, Drew Rosenhaus three times this year? Is Desean Jackson seeing fewer passes thrown his way because the Eagles want to have a statistical advantage when it come to negotiating his next contract?

These types of questions should never come up in sports because the goal is to always win, but in the era of reality tv who knows if there is anything truly Real and uncut on TV, sports included.
