But after Ken Griffey Jr. scored the ALDS-winning run versus the Yankees on a play we’ve come to know as ‘The Double’, the county’s elected council moved to cooperate with the team’s ownership, which directly resulted in the construction of Safeco Field. That ’95 season also cemented Griffey as a household name and made Nike sufficiently confident that the very next year, they ran ‘Griffey for President’ on the platform of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 in this original colorway.
