Malone, one of the 50 greatest NBA players, was the first player to make the jump to the professional league directly out of high school when he was chosen by the Utah Stars of the ABA passing up a scholarship to Maryland. The ’78-’79 season would have been Malone’s rookie year in the NBA had he gone to college instead it was his third season with the Houston Rockets and the year he set the current record of 51 consecutive double-doubles on his way to the NBA Most Valuable Player award. Malone was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1982-83 season and anchored the team that went all the way to the NBA Finals defeating the Los Angeles Lakers. Malone never won another title but played an amazing 19 seasons in the league.

In the 1976-77 season Malone set the overall consecutive double double record over two seasons with 51. Love will attempt to break the overall record on  Wednesday night (Mar 9th) against Indiana.
