With sadness we report that R&B/gospel singer David Peaston has passed. He was 54. Unfortunately, as of this posting, details of his death are not available. However, according to postings on his Facebook page, he died on Wednesday.

Former Municipal Court Judge Jimmie Moore thinks the city of Philadelphia should look more like Baghdad. He believes the only way to remedy the current rising murder rate in the city is to station the National Guard in low income neighborhood to help police in the cities crime fighting efforts. He compares the efforts to post-Katrina in New Orleans and the lack of police presence in Camden, NJ as examples of how Martial Law could work for the city of Philadelphia. He believes the federal government should offer to send troops to our most at-risk neighborhoods to provide surveillance and patrol.

“Our residents are gripped with fear; this is not a time to put sunglasses over the black eye that is this,” said Moore

Don Cornelius, the former host and creator of the famed show Soul Train apparently committed suicide last night from a gunshot wound to the head. His body was found by police at 4am this morning and officials say his wounds were self-inflicted. He was pronounced dead before reaching the hospital. Cornelius most recently appeared at the 2009 BET Awards to present The O’Jays with the 2009 BET Lifetime Achievement Award. He was best known for his deep and smooth voice which was a staple on his “Soul Train.”

According to NBC philadelphia, Six Bucks Country men were arrested Monday for possession of 40 Pounds of Cocaine, which had a networth around $8 million dollars. The cocaine was allegedly smuggled from Mexico to the US, with intent to distribute.

Alfonso Vallejo, 45, of Brownsville, Texas; Fernando Garcia, 31, of Philadelphia; Arnaldo Rodriguez, 33, of Philadelphia; Jairo Nunez-Dejesus, 35, of Allentown; Antonio Ferreira, 34, of Whitehall, Pa.; and Jhon Torres, 34, of Macungie, Pa. were all arrested after Bensalem Police were tipped off by locals concerned about drug dealers in the area. The warehouse, which was the redistribution center for the drugs, was also seized by police.

The President’s House: Freedom and Slavery in the Making of a New Nation, located at 6th and Market Streets, is an exhibit which takes a look at the houses of Presidents George Washington and John Adams from 1790 to 1800, when slaves served their terms while in office.

The 24-hour open-air National Historical Park gives visitors a different perspective on how enslaved Africans served, lived and eventually freed. The site also features a large glass vitrine that will allow visitors to view archaeological fragments.

Thanks to Rutgers University, students will be able get a full understanding of Beyonce by taking the college course “Politicizing Beyonce.” It falls under Rutgers’ Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, and doctoral student and lecturer Kevin Allred teaches the class.

Beyonce’s moves as a sex symbol and role model are analyzed, and Allred explains, “This isn’t a course about Beyoncé’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend.” He adds, “While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.”
