Mayor Nutter Announces City Exceeds Projections For Tax Amnesty

With more than $40 million for the City plus more than $20 million for the School District collected after expenses, Philadelphia’s first tax amnesty program in over two decades exceeded expectations. Original collection estimates by the Department of Revenue ranged from $25-$30 million. Overall, more than 27,000 tax delinquents embraced the opportunity to make good with the City by applying for tax amnesty.

Lawrence Taylor Busted; Charged with Raping a 15 Year old!

Former New York Giants and  Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor was busted early Thursday morning  after being accused of raping a 15-year-old girl at a Montebello, N.Y., hotel, police tell WRNB Radio.

 WASHINGTON, D.C., April 7, 2010–Reggie Bryant, described as “iconoclastic and bombastic,” was a founder of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. He was a veteran broadcaster and media consultant as well as a writer, filmmaker and artist. Bryant died on Monday, April 5, 2010, in Philadelphia, of cancer. He was 68.

Trenton man held in rape of teen, Mayor asks for Community Support for Family of 7 Yr Old

Trenton Mayor Doug Palmer met with the 7-year-old victom of gang rape and  and her family in his office  and later described their ordeal as a “torment.”

Dirty Rats Chew Their Way to Explosions!

A good number of rats chewing on an electrical cable last night in West Philly and caused an explosion that blew off a six manhole covers weighing 100 pounds. The explosion occurred in the area of 56th and Market Streets according City Officials.
The chewing rats caused a short on a cable that feeds power to SEPTA’s Market Street Elevated line and that sparked a gas buildup in an underground utility tunnel.
No one was injured in the blast about 10:35 p.m.

Firefighters battled a blaze this morning at a building that houses Philadelphia International Records, the home of legendary music producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Initial reports indicate that the fire was on the third floor, where apartments are located. A spokesman for Gamble and Huff did not have details other than to say there may have been a break-in overnight. The fire broke out at about 7:30 a.m. and went to at least two alarms.
