Why Bishop Eddie Long’s Wife Vanessa Remains Silent

With the cloud of sexual allegations hanging over Bishop Eddie Long’s head, the embattled pastor can take comfort in the fact that he has the support of his congregation, and most importantly, the support of his wife Elder Vanessa Long. On September 26th, when Bishop Long spoke publicly for the first time after being accused of sexual coercion by four young men, Mrs. Long was right by his side and didn’t say a word at the Sunday morning service or the press conference that followed. Who is this woman of so little words?

Before she because Mrs. Eddie Long, Vanessa Griffin lived in Columbus, GA. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in office administration in 1980 from Morris Brown College in Atlanta. Vanessa went on to spend 10 years working at the U.S. Department of Education. She then relocated to Lithonia, GA after marrying Eddie Long in 1990, and they now have four children: Eric, Edward, Jared and Taylor. Vanessa has been an active First Lady in many capacities, especially as the founder of Women on the Path, a program that is part of New Birth’s Heart to Heart Women’s Ministry.

As Bishop Eddie Long battles the scandalous charges against him, or prepares to settle with his accusers, Vanessa Long still remains by her husband’s side. Only Bishop Eddie Long and his accusers know the truth, but at least he can rest assured that his wife is giving all indications that she will ride this storm with him.
